The Palm Springs Air Museum, is a non-profit educational institution, whose mission is to exhibit, educate and eternalize the role of the World War II combat aircraft and the role the pilots and American citizens had in achieving this great victory. In addition to flying aircraft, related artifacts, artwork, and library sources are used to perpetuate American history. palm springs golf courses

The significance of World War Two is unparalleled in all of the history of the world in that it was the greatest, most costly conflict ever fought, taking the lives of more than 70 million people. It was Air Power that altered the outcome of that war and forever changed the lives of every person alive today.

To accomplish this mission, the Palm Springs Air Museum uses the following components of the collection: palm springs golf courses

  • One of the world's largest collections of flying World War Two warplanes
  • · Rare and original combat photography
  • · Original artworks, including enormous murals
  • · Artifacts, memorabilia, and uniforms of WW2
  • · Comprehensive graphics and historical themes
  • · Continuous video documentaries

The above components are appropriately grouped into the major regions of combat, the European and Pacific Theatres of Operations. Easy-to-follow storylines are presented in permanent exhibitions, temporary displays, and several series of on-going history and heritage education programs.

These programs regularly feature flight demonstrations of: the Museum's collection, visiting historic planes, and visiting contemporary aircraft of the US military and neighboring nations.

By far, the most important component of the Museum's presentations is not part of the collection, but is, instead, the living history and eyewitness accounts of the hundreds of docents who volunteer their time to explain the exhibits. Many served and survived in air combat during World War Two. They are a priceless resource that is also a very finite asset of the institution. They are uniquely available to the Air Museum because of the splendid and healthy weather in Palm Springs that also draws millions of tourists to the region each year.

The Fabulous Palm Springs Follies is a three-hour razzle-dazzle, song and dance vaudeville- style extravaganza showcasing the music and dance of the '30s and '40s.

Each of our professional cast members is 59 to 89 years young!

The Follies features internationally renowned guest stars, hilarious and awe-inspiring variety acts, and among the greatest names in show business today. The twelfth season's guest stars include Gloria Loring (November 5 - December 31, 2002); The Four Lads (January 8 - March 2, 2003); Jane Kean (March 5 - April 13, 2003) and Carol Lawrence (April 16 - May 25, 2003)

The Follies is the creation of impresario and compere Riff Markowitz, a former television producer, who took over the then-vacant Historic Plaza Theatre and turned it into the home of one of the most successful shows of its kind in the world.

More than two million people have seen The Fabulous Follies since its opening with annual attendance topping 180,000. Every season boasts an entirely new show. (The twelfth season opens November 5, 2002 and runs through May 25, 2003.)

The Fabulous Palm Spring Follies is performed at the Historic Plaza Theatre, in the heart of the Village of Palm Springs. Built in 1936, the former movie theater was home to the gala world premiere of the motion picture Camille, numerous Bob Hope radio broadcasts as well as The Jack Benny Radio Show, and live performances by Frank Sinatra, Gordon MacRae and others.

The film, Still Kicking: The Fabulous Palm Springs Follies was nominated for a 1997 Academy Award for Best Documentary Short Subject.

The Follies has been featured on The CBS Evening News, NBC's The Today Show, ABC's Day One and CNN, and in People Magazine, the Toronto Globe and Mail, the Washington Post, the New York Times, and Modern Maturity, among many others.

Time of Your Life, a television piece featuring The Fabulous Palm Springs Follies and produced by KOMO-TV, Seattle, won an Emmy Award in 1997.

The Annenberg Theater is pleased to present its 2002/2003 season with some of the finest performers from the world of music, drama, comedy, opera, and dance. This intimate state-of-the-art 433-seat theater located on the lower level of the Palm Springs Desert Museum, features continental seating (no center aisle) with only 15 rows and nearly perfect acoustics.

Joshua Tree National Park is one of the most popular rock climbing areas in the world. More than 4,500 established climbs offering a wide range of difficulty are located within the park's 794,993 acres. Over a million people visit Joshua Tree each year, many of them rock climbers.

The National Park Service mission requires park managers to provide for the enjoyment of the park by today's visitor, while conserving and protecting park resources for future generations. Dramatic increases in visitation, coupled with decreased staffing, burden an already difficult, sometimes contradictory, task. Park managers are concerned about trash, soil erosion, vegetation damage, human waste disposal, natural and cultural resource protection and overcrowding -- as well as the quality of each visitor's experience. This information is devoted to what you, as a climber, can do to help preserve your enjoyment of this unique recreational resource. Help protect the American treasure we call Joshua Tree National Park.Food, Water & Other Necessities

Palm Springs Golf Course and Package Information

There are no facilities except outhouses in the park. You may fill your water jugs at the Visitor Centers in Twentynine Palms and Cottonwood, and at Black Rock Canyon and Indian Cove ranger stations. The towns of Joshua Tree, Yucca Valley and Twentynine Palms have supermarkets, reasonably priced restaurants, climbing equipment shops and emergency medical services.

  • Showers
  • Showers are available at several local motels, campgrounds and fitness centers. In bad weather, you can buy daily memberships to train at fitness centers.
  • Cultural Resources
  • Protection of cultural resources is a serious issue facing climbers at Joshua Tree and other parks with significant remains of historic and prehistoric cultures. By law, archaeological sites and remains may not be disturbed in any way. This includes rock art (pictographs and petroglyphs), habitation sites (rock shelters and camp sites), and cultural remains (pottery, vessels and sherds, projectile points, stone tools and beads).Climbing within 50 feet of Native American rock art is prohibited because pictographs (paintings) and petroglyphs (carvings) are damaged by skin oils, chalk and boot rubber.Private holdings and some historical sites within the park are closed to the public. This includes Keys Ranch -- except when accompanied by a ranger. The numerous mining sites found throughout the park should not be entered. Mine shafts are extremely unstable and are often filled with harmful gases.

    Natural Resources

In order to protect sensitive wildlife habitat, the wonderland of Rocks and the Queen Mountain area are designated Day Use Areas. This allows desert wildlife to visit water sources undisturbed. Pets are not permitted in the backcountry (defined as more than 100 yards from the road) to protect wildlife. the scent of a dog near a water source can keep animals away from needed water. The park is home to several species of plants designated as endangered or threatened; three of these grow only at the base of rock formations. Avoid trampling all plant life.Birds sometimes build nests on climbing routes. The routes are then closed to protect the eggs and hatchlings. Please abide by these occasional closures and report nesting birds whenever you encounter them.

    Human Waste

This issue is clearly on climbers' minds; take a look at the route names in the guidebook! In areas where outhouses are not available, choose a spot at least 50 yards from water sources, trails and the bases of climbs. Dig a 6-inch "cat-hole," then cover the waste. Pack out used toilet paper. Coyotes may dig up the waste later and if toilet paper is left, it will be blown about by the wind creating an unhealthy and unsightly situation. Palm Springs golf course and package information.

    Responsible Climbing

Commit to "leave no trace" during your stay at Joshua Tree. Pick up trash around campgrounds and cliffs. Your actions will inspire other park visitors.

Whether on the cliffs or in a parking lot such as Hidden Valley, maintain a low profile. Others have the same right to undisturbed enjoyment of the park as you do.

Use existing trails whenever possible and be careful of fragile desert vegetation. The base of echo Rock is an example of serious plant damage.

Before placing bolts, think carefully about the route's validity. Joshua Tree has a lot of top rope routes; many are worth climbing, but not worth bolting. If in doubt, show your proposed route to others and get their opinion before drilling. Bolts mar, some would say deform, the natural features of rock faces.

Retreat/rappel slings and bolt hangers are intrusions on the natural landscape and should not be visible. Chains and natural colored webbing help camouflage rappel stations.

They don't call Palm Springs the "golf capital of the world" for nothing. Not only are there more than 100 golf courses in the valley area, but they are also among the world's most beautiful. In fact, if you watch golf tournaments on television, you've already seen many of them. They star in the highly-rated network golf special. Tennis is the sport that originally built Palm Springs golf. Movie stars Charlie Farrell and Ralph Bellamy began their famed golf Racquet Club in Palm Springs to attract their Hollywood golf friends. Be warned, however, the gorgeous mountains in the background may play havoc with your concentration.
