One of two courses designed by Robinson for the city of Indian Wells, the West Course has plenty of quirks and perhaps a little more overall character than the East Course. That character was once shown during a Senior PGA Tour event played at the course and won by Raymond Floyd.

The course lays on both sides of the Whitewater Wash, but the wash comes into play on just a few holes. One of those holes is the 413-yard par-4 10th, where a shot to the right of the fairway can find the wash and out of bounds easily.

The signature hole of the course is the 466-yard par-5 16th, featuring a large lake in front of sloping greens. Longer hitters will be tempted to go for the green in two, but the penalty is a sure bogey from the water.

The 17th is the start of a solid stretch of closing holes that incldues a difficult par-3 at 17 and a dogleg left hole with water and a tiered green at the 18th.

They don't call Palm Springs the "golf capital of the world" for nothing. Not only are there more than 100 golf courses in the valley area, but they are also among the world's most beautiful. In fact, if you watch golf tournaments on television, you've already seen many of them. They star in the highly-rated network golf special. Tennis is the sport that originally built Palm Springs golf. Movie stars Charlie Farrell and Ralph Bellamy began their famed golf Racquet Club in Palm Springs to attract their Hollywood golf friends. Be warned, however, the gorgeous mountains in the background may play havoc with your concentration.
